Rhiannon Laakso-McIntyre
I was, thankfully, raised on art supplies and drawing has been part of my life since I could hold a crayon. I attended an inner city arts magnet high school in California and then earned a BA in Art from Humboldt State University. While also raising two spirited kids (now grown), I have been a working artist on and off over the years doing everything from portrait commissions to graphic design. I have taught art in juvenile offender facilities, privately, through Girl Scouts, and at community events before I left California to join the love of my life in New Mexico. Here in Taos my “day job” is managing a bicycle repair business with my husband, Ryan. We operated a bike shop together from 2019 through 2023 in Los Alamos, NM but moved it here to Taos in 2024. The people and the culture of Taos drew us in and now I am designing an adobe home that we’ll build ourselves here in town.
I started working with watercolors in 2017 because it called to me more strongly than the acrylic I’d been painting with since high school. (Or maybe I just finally got over the intimidation.) It's currently my favorite medium, but I also draw in graphite, pastel, and colored pencil, as well as sewing, knitting, and small metalwork/ jewelry. I am thoroughly enjoying nesting here in Taos and look forward to living out the rest of my life in this beautiful high desert town.
