Michael Ellison
Biography
A recent resident of the Taos area, Michael Ellison was born and spent 60 yrs of his life in Northeastern Oklahoma. The son of a commercial artist mother, Ellison worked in Tulsa as an advertising copywriter, then picture-framer, while pursuing his passion for painting. By the mid-1980's he was represented by Tulsa's M.A. Doran Gallery and had become an early member of the Tulsa Artist's Coalition Gallery. Recently, Ellison has been represented by Joseph Gierek Fine Art in Tulsa.
Ellison has exhibited his work in galleries and museums in Tulsa, Ft. Smith, Taos and Santa Fe. His paintings reside in public and private collections and have received numerous awards. He illustrated Mark Kehl's Scary Sea Stories, Vol. 2 and was nominated for 1989's National Educational Press Association Award for his illustration work for 'The Instrumentalist' magazine. Ellison has worked as a muralist; an example graces the lower hall of Tulsa's German-American Society. He has a BAS in Journalism/Advertising from Oklahoma State University and an MA in Painting from the University of Tulsa. Ellison has studied with artists Glenn Godsey, Ross Myers and Timothy J. Clark.
For the last 20 yrs, Michael has lived on and managed a 360 acre cattle ranch located on a remote N.E. Oklahoma hilltop.
Michael is represented in New Mexico by Chimayo Trading Post, Ranchos de Taos
