Artist Statement

“I was born and raised in the Midwest. My love of creating art has been a life-long endeavor. In high school one of my watercolors won a Scholastic Award for the Hallmark Competition. This put the wheels in motion, proving the training that I received was very fruitful. While attending Luther college, in Decorah, Iowa; I painted the set for the musical ‘110 in the Shade’. It was highly challenging because I had never painted a canvas that large. The result was extremely gratifying. Later, as a senior, I exhibited my first solo show. Various themes and mediums were displayed, but watercolor was predominant. After graduating from college with a B.A. in Fine Art, I explored the different regions of the country. Being a nature lover, I worked in numerous National Parks and ski resorts, painting and shooting photographs as I traveled. Every spot visited opened up a whole new type of scenery. This created a wealth of material for my paintings. I continue to draw from this material, as well as scenes gathered from the surrounding area of Taos where I now live. Moving to Taos is yet another change of scenery where the possibilities seem endless. In this art community, I have participated in numerous local and national juried shows as I continue to grow through my artwork.”
