Bill Baron was born in Chicago and earned a BFA in Industrial Design at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Bill also studied and exhibited his fine art in sculpture, painting and drawing at the U of I. After graduating with honors he practiced Industrial Design and held professorial positions at North Carolina State University School of Architecture and Design, University of Illinois Industrial Design Department and New York University Fashion Institute.
In 1969 Baron had a major exhibit of his painting, drawing and animation at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.
He left a tenured position at the U of I to pursue careers in commercial design, development, manufacturing and marketing, holding executive positions in several companies in the toy, game and entertainment industries. His last position was as Vice President of Leisure Concepts, Inc. a marketing and Development company traded on NYSE.
In 1996 he relocated to Talpa, New Mexico where he is engaging his artistic interests. His sculpture was juried into the prestigious New Mexico 2000 show at the New Mexico Museum of Fine Art. He had his first one man show, One Of The Few Good Men, in 2008 at Art Divas Gallery in Taos, exhibiting his work in painting, printmaking and sculpture.
In addition to his art activities, Baron is an award winning cartoonist, creating Editorial cartoons for The Taos News for over 15 years. He writes and illustrates the bilingual (Spanish-English) strip, Umberto, appearing in The Taos News for over 18 years.
